Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering

The Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (MME), established in the year 2002, was birthed from the former Institute of Mining and Minerals Engineering. The department belongs to the faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana, that provides students with a broad knowledge of developing new materials and/or improving on existing materials with improved performance for diverse applications such as in nanotechnology, aerospace, energy systems, electronics, mining, and medicine. Students are trained to utilize their knowledge in physics and chemistry to explore and understand the interplay among processing, structure, and properties in metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites. Material/metallurgical engineers are involved in developing, processing, and marketing a wide variety of products such as metals, polymers, films, and ceramics.

As part of one of the largest and most prestigious technical universities in sub-Saharan Africa, the Department of Materials Engineering is a great place to be and to learn skills that can make the world better.

We offer two undergraduate courses: BSc. Materials Engineering and BSc. Metallurgical Engineering

We graduate about 100 material engineers and 100 metallurgical engineers a year who become entrepreneurs, researchers, leaders, and builders of tomorrow in academia, government, laboratories, mines, processing and environmental industries.

Our metallurgical engineering programme has been re-introduced in 2010.

We also offer postgraduate courses:

MPhil. Environmental Resources Mangagement,

MSc. Environmental Resources Mangagement (on IDL platform)

MPhil. Materials Engineering

PhD Materials Engineering

Overall, we offer a friendly, educationally stimulating environment and beyond technical knowledge, our programmes emphasize critical thinking, resourcefulness, problem-solving, and teamwork.

Our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes give students the confidence, experience, and connections to change the world.
