On the 18th of September, 2021, brilliant students from the Materials Engineering Department participated in a competition to explain science concepts to nonscience people in a program dubbed, ‘Dumb it Down’. The program was an opportunity to showcase the creative genius of the students while also fulfilling the goal of making complex science concepts more understandable to nonscience people. Contestants were given a limited time of 5 minutes to explain their concepts using a maximum of 10 scientific terms, after which a panel of judges assessed their performance based on creativity, eloquence, and obedience to the rules of the competition to announce the winner.
After an exhilarating and keenly contested competition, Obed Nyavor Tawiah came 1st, winning a cash prize of GH₵ 250. Kingsley Fynn came in 2nd place, winning a cash prize of GH₵200, and Mary Sintim Donkor placed 3rd winning a cash prize of GH₵150. Other special awards were also presented to deserving contestants, including the Overall Best Presentation award going to a 1st-year student, Asamoah Dorigen for her outstanding presentation. Consolation prizes were also given to the other contestants.
